Learning to cook is not only a necessity for me but my passion.

Every since I was a little girl I dreamed of working in a professional kitchen. My grandmother's taught me what food is, a way to bring family together and share your love with loved ones. I enrolled at JCCC to further my journey into the culinary world with bright eyes and big dreams. I had never dreamed of joining the Culinary Team until Chef Adel pulled me aside in class and asked me to come to practice that next week. I showed up early that morning, terrified and unsure. Now I proudly have three silver medals, one gold, and experience and knowledge that is absolutely priceless to me.

Food is my passion, and this program has helped me share it with the world.

That's us, the JCCC Culinary Team. In the kitchen we're focused, intense and striving for perfection.

We are a group of 13 JCCC students who work extremely hard with a full load of classes, full-time jobs, and and a commitment to the culinary competing team.

Why do we push ourselves for the culinary team?  We compete out of a desire to learn as much as possible, out of dedication to our chosen field, and to challenge ourselves to improve and grow. We show up at 6 a.m. for team practices, create competition menus, practice, perfect the final product, and then critique, review, evaluate, refine and look for ways to make our entry even better.  As a team we share ideas, assist and encourage each other.

After winning our regional championship in March, we brought home a silver medal from the American Culinary Federation National Conference. Now we have our sights set on gold at the Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany!  This prestigious competition began in 1900 and takes place every 4 years. It is the ultimate display of culinary talents; a place where more than 1600 chefs, pastry chefs and culinary artists from over 50 countries gather to compete and showcase the newest gastronomic trends.

This project is an enormous undertaking and brings with it expenses beyond the limits of our budget and customary fundraising efforts.  Not only travel expenses such as airfare and room and board, but also entry fees for each student, plates, knives, chef uniforms and so much more go into this renowned event. We would deeply appreciate any contribution you could make towards helping us get to the Olympics!

Yes it's OK to have some laughs after a long practice. Anyone washing the dishes?

JCCC Student Culinary Team at Nationals

Published on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016 at 07:45 PM (CST)

We would like to highlight our part of the team that went to the ACF Nationals just last month! JCCC Hot food culinary team members won the Central Region this past March which took them onto Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona last month. Unfortunately, no one could predict their equipment not showing up with them! Even with this major setback, the team pulled it all together and came out with a Silver medal and third place overall!! We are so proud of this team!

Members: Rocio Ramos (captain), Ashley Hunt, Heather Goodenow, Gabi Edrosa, Nico Padilla

Working with Rich Rosendale

Published on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 at 10:05 PM (CST)

We were lucky enough to have Rich Rosendale come to JCCC this August 10th and 11th to help us with Cold Food!

A little bio on the Master Chef : In 2004 Rosendale became the youngest member of the ACF Culinary Team USA, that team went to the Culinary Olympics in Germany and placed 1st in Hot Food. Rosendale has since then been Captain of the USA Culinary olympics team, won 3 golds, become a Certified Master Chef and competed in the Bocuse d’Or! (the most challenging and prestigious Culinary competition held in Lyon, France)

Without a doubt, we are honored to be able to ask him to look at our work we are preparing for our own trip to the Culinary Olympics in Germany.

More pictures of everyone's plates to come!!
